Deserializer Reference Design
Xilinx announced immediate availability of a Virtex-4 FPGA-based deserializer reference design, application note and evaluation module jointly developed with Texas Instruments. The new reference design, together with the accompanying application note, deserializes data streams from TI’s ADS6000 analog-to-digital converter (ADC) family, providing designers a quick and easy solution with which to deploy products based on the latest advanced ADC device technology. The evaluation module, available through TI (TSW1200EVM), consists of a circuit board and a set of preconfigured design files, which enable designers to prototype and evaluate the performance of the latest high-speed ADCs featuring serialized LVDS outputs.
Dual Link HD-SDI, 3G-SDI Reference Designs
Xilinx introduced a suite of new reference designs supporting the Dual Link (SMPTE 372M) and 3G-SDI (SMPTE 424M and SMPTE 425M, level A and level B) serial digital video standards based on Xilinx Virtex-5 FPGAs leveraging the industry’s first available interoperability platform, the Xilinx ML571 evaluation board. The new reference designs will showcase conversion from Dual Link HD-SDI to 3G-SDI, a 3G-SDI pass through demonstration with frame synchronisation for improved jitter performance, and conversion from 3G-SDI back to Dual Link.
Video-over-IP, IPTV Reference Design
Xilinx announced a new reference design for video-over-IP and IPTV applications. The reference design is a highly integrated and cost effective solution for designers in a wide variety of video based applications such as broadcast, video conferencing, CCTV surveillance, wired, and wireless IPTV applications. The solution supports multiple channels in and out, bridging between DVB-ASI and Ethernet IP packets, and forward error correction (FEC) using the ProMPEG Code of Practice 3 (CoP3) â€“ for compressed transport streams and uncompressed SDI video sources. Additional flexibility is provided through a choice of memory and processor configurations to closely match technical requirements.
Advanced Video Development Platform
Xilinx and Image Processing Techniques, Ltd. launched a new Advanced Video Development Platform (AVDP) based on the PCI Express compliant endpoint block embedded in Xilinx Virtex-5 LXT and SXT FPGAs. Designers of post production equipment, video servers, and encoders to broadcast monitors are expected to benefit from the high-performance, flexible, and scaleable solution.
Virtex-4 SX FPGA Powers Digital TV Modulator
Linear Equipamentos Electronicos chose Xilinx Virtex-4 SX FPGAs to enable its latest Digital TV (DTV) modulator. Leveraging the high-performance DSP capabilities and inherent programmability of the Virtex-4 SX family, Linear has developed the industry’s first modulator for the International System for Digital Television (ISDTV) market allowing customers to quickly adapt to the new and emerging standard.
