Altera introduced five new low-cost development kits based on its Cyclone V FPGAs. The Altera kits make it easy for designers to cost-effectively get started on FPGA development with an entry point of just $49. Altera’s portfolio of low-cost CPLDs, FPGAs and SoCs are available now in production. All low-cost development kits supporting the portfolio are available today.
Altera and Micron Technology have successfully demonstrated interoperability between Altera Stratix V FPGAs and Micron’s Hybrid Memory Cube (HMC). This technology achievement enables system designers to evaluate today the benefits of HMC with FPGAs and SoCs for next-generation communications and high-performance computing designs. The demonstration provides an early proof point that production support of HMC will be delivered with Altera’s Generation 10 portfolio — includes both Stratix 10 and Arria 10 FPGAs and SoCs.
Xilinx is hosting a webinar about the Vivado HLS Video Libraries. The webcast will show how to rapidly accelerate real-time computer vision algorithms and integrate them into designs using Xilinx Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoC devices. The title of the webinar is: How to Accelerate OpenCV Applications with Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoC using Vivado HLS Video Libraries. The online seminar will take place Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at 8am PST (11am EST, 3 GMT).

Alpha Data introduced their ADM-XRC-7Z1 XMC Mezzanine card. The ADM-XRC-7Z1 features the Xilinx Zynq System-on-Chip (SoC). The ADM-XRC-7Z1 ships with a Software Development Kit (SDK), which includes example designs and software drivers. The board is available in industrial grade and air or conduction cooled variants. The ADM-XRC-7Z1 XMC Mezzanine card suitable for initial development through to deployment in rugged environments.
Microsemi introduced System Builder design tool for the SmartFusion2 SoC FPGA devices. The System Builder tool simplifies the design process for Microsemi’s SmartFusion2 SoC FPGAs in embedded system applications. With System Builder, designers can quickly and easily define the desired system architecture via a high-level step-by-step process.
Avnet Electronics Marketing rolled out the production-grade ZedBoard. According to the company, it is the industry’s first development kit to offer production silicon of the Xilinx Zynq-7000 All Programmable (AP) SoC. The ZedBoard kit includes the ZedBoard, power supply, USB cable, and pre-configured SD card containing a bootable Linux reference design. The ZedBoard is available now for $395.
Altera released version 13.0 of their Quartus II software. Quartus II v13 enables designs targeting Stratix V FPGAs to achieve the fastest Fmax of any FPGA in the industry with a two speed-grade advantage over the nearest competitor. Both the Subscription Edition and the free Web Edition of Quartus II software v13.0 are now available for download.
Avnet Electronics Marketing announced the Xilinx Zynq-7000 All Programmable (AP) SoC Mini-Module Plus. The new product is a system-on-module (SOM) based on the Xilinx Zynq-7000 AP SoC XC7Z045T device. A complete Xilinx Zynq-7000 AP SoC Mini-Module Plus System including Mini-Module Plus baseboard, Zynq-7000 AP SoC module, and Mini-Module Plus power module is priced at $2,095.
Xilinx released version 2.1 of their Real-Time Video Engine. RTVE runs on the OZ745 Zynq-7045 All Programmable system-on-a-chip (SoC) baseboard from OmniTek. RTVE 2.1 is a key component of the Xilinx All Programmable Smarter Vision solutions, which combines the Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoC, Vivado High-Level Synthesis (HLS) with IP integrator software tools, OpenCV libraries, SmartCORE IP and hardware development kits
