Impulse Accelerated Technologies Debuts AOE Experimenter’s Software Simulator

Solarflare’s AOE integrates a large Altera FPGA in a network-friendly PCIe form factor. Impulse CoDeveloper v3.7 Compiles ANSI C to Altera Quartus Qsys r12

Impulse Accelerated Technologies released version 3.7 of their Impulse C and CoDeveloper for compiling C algorithms to Altera’s Quartus revision 12 Qsys software. This enables software developers to more easily compile C based algorithms for the fastest integration into Altera Stratix and Cyclone FPGAs. According to Impulse, project managers report 50% time savings on first prototype and more than 80% time savings on iterations using the Impulse C tool to Quartus tool flow.

Impulse Accelerated, Pico Computing Speed GATK Workflow by 16X

Impulse Accelerated Technologies and Pico Computing teamed together to speed the processing of a common Genome Analysis Tool Kit (GATK) workflow by 16X when compared to the original software-only implementation. GATK, which is used in bioinformatics research, is a software library used to create workflows for genomic sequencing. It’s also a collection of tools for translational medicine in projects, such as the The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA).

The latest version of the C-language development environment for FPGAs features improvements to compiler performance, expanded Linux support and new parallel hardware optimization (including support for higher-throughput streaming I/O). Impulse CoDeveloper v3.7 update is available for free to licensed users of the CoDeveloper software with active maintenance agreements.

Impulse C-to-FPGA Compiler Supports Pico Computing M-Series Modules

Impulse Accelerated Technologies will extend their C-to-FPGA compiler to support Pico Computing’s M-Series modules. The Pico modules feature the Xilinx Virtex-6 and Spartan-6 FPGA devices in a configuration that enables engineers to scale up from one to multiple modules. As a result, algorithms can be optimized for lower power, higher parallel-streaming operation on an FPGA, and then scaled to increase performance.

Stone Ridge Technology and Impulse Accelerated Technologies teamed together to integrate Impulse C to FPGA toolset with Stone Ridge’s RDX-11 FPGA board and development kit. The integration enables software developers to write HLL (high level language) algorithms that rapidly compile to optimized RTL (run time language). Developers can purchase Impulse C or Stone Ridge boards from the respective manufacturers.

DRC Computer and Impulse Accelerated Technologies have integrated the Impulse C-to-FPGA tools with the DRC Accelium coprocessor card. The integration enables software engineers to fully access hardware acceleration using familiar C programming methods. It provides C-language control of I/O, memory, streams and signals at the hardware level, allowing applications to leverage the high parallelism possible in FPGAs for higher performance.

Xilinx FPGA Accelerated Bioinformatics Algorithm

Pico Computing used CoDeveloper C-to-FPGA compiler (Impulse Accelerated Technologies) to develop and deploy a DNA biotechnology genome search algorithm on a new, modular FPGA acceleration platform. The Xilinx FPGA-accelerated bioinformatics algorithm, written in C, performs sequence analysis and pair-match scoring of DNA runs with lengths of 25 base pairs. The algorithm is inherently parallel, making it an ideal candidate for acceleration using a large number of FPGA devices.
