Microsemi introduced the SmartFusion2 SoC FPGA Starter Kit. The tool offers engineers a prototyping platform for the Microsemi SmartFusion2 system-on-chip (SoC) field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs). The kit supports interfaces like Ethernet, USB, SPI, I2C and UART. It includes a comprehensive breadboard to support unique design requirements.
Tokyo Electron Device Limited (TED) introduced the TB-7V-2000T-LSI ASIC development test platform. The inrevium TB-7V-2000T-LSI features a Xilinx Virtex-7 FPGA. The TB-7V-2000T-LSI makes it possible to perform emulation and prototyping of large SoCs using a single FPGA instead of the multiple chips required in the past. The TB-7V-2000T-LSI ASIC development test platform can be ordered today. The tool will be begin shipping in early December 2012.
Altera rolled out version 12 of their Quartus II development software for FPGA design. Quartus II software v12.0 offers faster compile times (up to four times faster), expanded device support (such as Altera’s SoC FPGAs), enhanced Qsys system integration and DSP Builder tools, and improved intellectual property (IP) core offerings. The Subscription Edition and the free Web Edition of Quartus II software version 12.0 are now available for download. The annual software subscription costs $2,995 for a node-locked PC license.
Every year, the brilliant students at Cornell University work on some fabulous projects for their ECE 5760. The students were given the responsibility of choosing their project, then designing and building it. Projects were built using the Altera/Terasic DE2 Development and Education board. This year’s projects include: prime number generator and RSA encrypter/decrypter, Conway’s life synthesizer, hand video-tracking virtual piano and drums, finger video-tracking virtual string instrument, and hand video-tracking video game.
Elma Electronic announced their VPX-300 OpenVPX reference platform. The 3U VPX development platform features a Virtex-6 FPGA based front end processor (FEP) card and uses a 7-slot backplane profile per VITA 65 BKP3-CEN07-15.2.3-n. The front end FPGA cluster performs incoming digital signal processing coupled via fabric to a back end data cluster. The Elma VPX-300 platform is ideal for applications requiring an FPGA front end and supporting pipelined high speed processing for demanding implementations. Pricing for the fully integrated VPX-300 depends on the complement of boards and configuration.
The Ariane Controls AC-CPM1 AutoGrade J2931 is an evaluation and development board optimized for inband signaling between Plug-In Electric Vehicles (PEV) and the Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE). The AC-CPM1 SAE J2931 evaluation and development board uses Microsemi’s ProASIC3 flash FPGA devices to speed design cycles for systems implementing automotive standard J2931 for communication. The Ariane Controls AC-CPM1 platform is available now.
Xilinx introduced three new industrial Targeted Design Platforms: (1) PROFINET, (2) Motor Control, and (3) GigE Vision. The new platforms are based on the low-cost Spartan-6 FPGA family. The design platforms help engineers increase performance and reduce time to market for PROFINET real time networking, advanced motor control, and GigE Vision industrial imaging applications. The PROFINET Targeted Design Platform, Targeted Design Platform for motor control and GigE Vision Targeted Design Platform are available now.
Xilinx introduced three automotive Targeted Design Platforms: Driver Assistance Surround View, Driver Information Hybrid Instrument Cluster, and Infotainment Companion Chip (CC). The platforms help automotive system designers to use Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) technology for driver assistance, driver information, and infotainment systems. The Xilinx Automotive (XA) Spartan-6 FPGA platforms reduce development risk and enable engineers to focus on customization and product differentiation.
Xilinx introduced the Spartan-6 FPGA Broadcast Connectivity Kit and Broadcast Processing Engine IP core. The development platform is ideal for engineers working on 3D TV broadcast and other high definition video applications. The Xilinx Spartan-6 FPGA Broadcast Connectivity Kit and Broadcast Processing Engine IP core enable broadcast system designers to build full systems for high-speed transmission and real-time processing of video in a full range of professional broadcast applications (such as cameras, switchers, routers, encoders, monitors and cinema projectors).
Analog Devices (ADI) and Xilinx announced the MS-DPD (mixed-signal, digital pre-distortion) development platform. MS-DPD helps multi-carrier cellular base station manufacturers reduce engineering resources and improve time to market. Xilinx’s Virtex-6 FPGA ML605 (field-programmable gate array) Evaluation Kit connects to the MS-DPD board through an industry-standard VITA-57 FMC connector. Using this system, the FPGA can be used to implement required radio algorithms leveraging the ADI signal chain available on the MS-DPD. The ADI MS-DPD development boards are available now for $3,995 each.
