Xilinx Announces New Virtex-5 FPGA Devices

Posted by Ken Cheung in FPGA on Tuesday, September 23, 2008

Xilinx, Inc. (Nasdaq: XLNX) is now shipping 24 devices across five 65nm Virtex-5 platforms (LX, LXT, SXT, FXT and TXT). Engineering samples of the Virtex-5 SX240T and FX200T devices are available for purchase through Xilinx distributors. The new Virtex-5 TX150T and Virtex-5 TX240T devices will begin sampling by the end of calendar 2008 with production devices available in the first quarter of 2009. Xilinx(R) Virtex-5 EasyPath(TM) FPGAs offer a conversion-free path to high volume with up to 75 percent cost reduction. Virtex-5 EasyPath FPGA devices are available now for design with volume production by end of 2008.

With up to 528 GMACs of multiply-and-accumulate performance and over 190 GFLOPS of single-precision, floating-point DSP performance, the SX240T device offers developers of broadcast video, medical imaging, wireless communication, defense, and high-performance computing applications the highest performing reconfigurable DSP solution. Meanwhile, the FX200T device establishes an industry record for embedded processing performance delivering a total of 1900 DMIPs with its two embedded PowerPC 440 Processor blocks. With 24 integrated 6.5Gbps serial transceivers, the FX200T device is the largest member of the Virtex-5 FXT FPGA platform optimized for embedded processing.

Consuming between 35% and 40% less dynamic power than the previous 90nm family, Virtex-5 FPGAs offer developers new innovations in transceiver technology, DSP and embedded processor performance to enable customers to meet their next generation system design challenges.
