NEC Custom Silicon Webinar
On April 2, NEC Electronics America will offer a webinar to provide tips that designers can apply to the development of custom silicon solutions for a wide range of applications: test and measurement equipment, factory automation products, instrumentation devices, transportation systems, building automation equipment, HVAC and security systems, and medical electronics. The webcast will be held Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. Eastern/11:00 a.m. Pacific time and will be available on demand for one year.
Conventional means of addressing these market requirements rely on the use of field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs). Unfortunately, FPGAs alone no longer provide engineers with the optimal solution they demand. The webinar, “Developing lower-power, lower-cost, more secure products for the industrial market with custom silicon,” will highlight an alternative that employs the use of a gate array ASIC in combination with an FPGA. This combination can drastically reduce overall system costs by up to 80 percent, and also offers a multitude of other benefits such as lower power and increased security.
The webcast will discuss:
- “FPGA + gate array” solution
- Advantages of using this solution in the industrial market
- How to implement this solution via real-world design examples
- Benefits that gate array ASICs provide over alternative solutions
