Altera Unveils Nios II Embedded Evaluation Kit Cyclone III Edition
Altera Corporation (NASDAQ: ALTR) announced availability of its new Nios II Embedded Evaluation Kit Cyclone III Edition. The Nios II evaluation kit is a feature-rich, low-cost platform that provides a fast and simple “hands on” way for embedded designers to assess the Nios II processor, SOPC Builder system design software and their custom applications.

eASIC, Tensilica Offer Free Diamond Processors on Free Mask Charge ASICs
Tensilica®, Inc and eASIC Corporation announced a partnership to remove the cost barriers for developing custom embedded System-on-a-Chip (SoCs). Through this partnership eASIC now provides free access to Tensilica’s Diamond Standard microprocessor and digital signal processing (DSP) cores for its free mask charge, no-minimum order ASICs. This unique combination enables embedded system designers to develop Diamond processor-based SoCs for applications in any production volume. Designers will now be able to develop customized, highly differentiated ASIC solutions at a lower cost than FPGA-based embedded systems.

BAE Systems, Achronix to Develop Radiation-Hardened Reconfigurable FPGA
BAE Systems, a global defense and aerospace leader, and Achronix Semiconductor, the multi-gigahertz (GHz) field-programmable gate array (FPGA) company, announced an agreement to jointly develop a reconfigurable radiation-hardened FPGA. The device will be developed using BAE Systems’ radiation-hardened 150 nm process and the Achronix high-performance FPGA technology.

Synplicity Joins Xilinx ESL Initiative
Synplicity®, Inc. Xilinx, Brilliant Create FPGA-Based Network Timing Solution

Arrow to Distribute MathStar Field Programmable Object Arrays in India
Arrow Asia Pac Ltd., a business unit of Arrow Electronics, Inc. (NYSE: ARW), announced that it has signed a distribution agreement for the India market with MathStar (Nasdaq: MATH), a leading fabless semiconductor company offering high-performance programmable logic solutions. Through the agreement, Arrow will distribute the full range of MathStar’s field programmable object array (FPOA) semiconductor devices, evaluation boards, design software and IP cores.

GE Fanuc Introduces ICS-8551 GHz Digital Receiver PMC/XMC Module
Confirming the company’s leadership in high performance analog to digital conversion (ADC) solutions, GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms announced the ICS-8551 rugged ADC PMC/XMC module. Designed for deployment in harsh environments, the ICS-8551 offers both two- and four-channel operation with sampling frequencies of 1.5 GHz (four channel) or 3 GHz (two channel) for Software Defined Radio (SDR) applications such as spectrum monitoring, signal intelligence, tactical communications and radar.
