Photron Selects Xilinx for High Speed Camera

Posted by Ken Cheung in FPGA-based Product on Monday, June 30, 2008

Photron selected software, silicon, and IP from Xilinx Inc., (Nasdaq: XLNX) for the new FASTCAM MH4-10K high-speed camera. Photron adopted Xilinx devices and Gigabit Ethernet IP core after evaluating its performance, power consumption, and stability. Xilinx also provided transfer speed and power consumption estimates as well as reference designs to reduce risks to a minimum.

Photron combined the high-performance capabilities of Xilinx(R) Virtex(R)-II Pro field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), ISE(R) design software, and Ethernet MAC intellectual property (IP) core to design their latest camera. The FASTCAM MH4-10K high-speed camera makes it possible to shoot 2,000 frames per second with 512 by 512 pixel by connecting four channels of subminiature camera heads.
