Carbon Model Studio
Carbon Model Studio, from Carbon Design Systems, is a solution for the automatic generation, validation, and implementation of hardware-accurate software models, enabling a design team to begin software development and debug before silicon. Carbon Model Studio was designed for the entire design team, from system architects and software engineers to hardware designers and third-party intellectual property (IP) providers. System architects can use Carbon Model Studio for architectural analysis and profiling. Software engineers can develop and debug embedded software, firmware, drivers and diagnostics concurrent with hardware development. In addition, Carbon Models can be securely distributed to third-party partners to accelerate adoption of an IP provider’s technology devices.

Webinar: Linux and RTOS Virtualization in a Carrier Grade Environment
MontaVista Software, Inc.and VirtualLogix are hosting three webinars. The webinars will show how MontaVista Linux Carrier Grade Edition (CGE) has been optimized to meet the requirements of virtualization on single-core and multi-core processors. VirtualLogix will use MontaVista Linux CGE to demonstrate RTOS and Linux virtualization with VLX for Network Infrastructure, which is a real-time virtualization technology.

Micro Magic MAX-3D 3D Layout Editor
MAX-3D, from Micro Magic, is a true 3D-aware layout editor. MAX-3D can combine distinct process wafers, and allows the designer to view, edit, and connect the independent wafers into one 3D stack chip. The design technique — known as “Through-Si Via Wafer Stacking” — is a new dimension for chip designs. It allows distinct wafers to be stacked on each other, and connected internally. This results in chips with denser designs and higher performance.

MontaVista TestDrive
MontaVista TestDrive is a virtual evaluation center that enables embedded Linux developers to test the full capabilities of MontaVista Linux Professional Edition and DevRocket developer tools. MontaVista TestDrive is a hosted web service for evaluating MontaVista Linux on a target processor and reference board of the developer’s choosing. TestDrive can shrink the time required for the technical evaluation of embedded Linux, of development tools, and of candidate hardware platforms from months to days. TestDrive eliminates the cost of buying software and hardware for evaluations, and the hard work necessary to acquire and build evaluation systems.

Synopsys DesignWare System-Level Library
Synopsys, Inc. (NASDAQ: SNPS) recently announced the DesignWare(R) System-Level Library. The library provides high-performance SystemC transaction-level simulation models (TLMs) for assembling virtual platforms, including instruction set simulators (ISS), and TLMs of Synopsys’ DesignWare Cores and ARM(R) AMBA(R) interconnect components. All DesignWare System-Level Library models are written in SystemC and work in IEEE 1666 (SystemC) compliant simulation environments, making them tool- independent.

Android Platform for Mobile Devices
The Open Handset Alliance recently announced the Android platform, which is an open and comprehensive platform for mobile devices. Through Android, developers, wireless operators, and handset manufacturers will be better positioned to bring to market innovative new products faster and at a much lower cost. The end result will be a mobile platform that will enable wireless operators and manufacturers to give their customers better, more personal, and more flexible mobile experiences.

Texas Instruments SimpliciTI Network Protocol
The SimpliciTI(TM) network protocol from Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) is a proprietary low-power radio frequency (RF) protocol targeting simple, small RF networks (less than 100 nodes). SimpliciTI network protocol was designed for easy implementation with minimal microcontroller resource requirements. Since SimpliciTI network protocol is designed for simple RF networks, it offers a perfect complement to ZigBee(R), which is designed for larger networks with mesh routing and standardized profiles.

EDA Industry Revenue – Q2 2007
The electronic design automation (EDA) industry, grew by 11.4% to $1,408.8 million in Q2 of 2007, versus $1,264.8 million in Q2 2006. The four-quarter average growth rate, which compares the most recent four quarters to the same four quarters in the prior year, was 14.6%. This increase reflects both the continuing growth of the industry as a whole and the growth of the MSS program. Companies that were tracked employed 26,164 professionals in Q2 2007, up 7.4 percent from the 24,362 employed in Q2 2006.

Korenix JetNet 5008G-P Embedded Managed Switch Board
Korenix’s JetNet 5008G-P is a Gigabit Embedded Managed Switch Board (EMSB) for industrial and extreme environments. The JetNet 5008G-P is equipped with six 10/100Base-TX ports, two Gigabit RJ-45/SFP Fiber combo ports, and one internal Gigabit RJ-45 port for system connectivity and management. The EMSB is specially designed to combine with an embedded task-specific system.

Embedded Multi-Core CPU Market
According to Venture Development Corporation (VDC), revenue growth for multi-core CPUs in embedded applications is projected to be strong through 2011. Multi-core CPU revenues from embedded in 2011 will be over six times that of 2007 multi-core revenues and over 44 times 2006 levels.

GE Fanuc Embedded Systems MicroTCA MP-2000, MicroTCA MP-3000 Platforms
GE Fanuc Embedded Systems recently announced the MicroTCA MP-2000 and MicroTCA MP-3000 platforms. Both platforms are scalable — allowing each to be easily upgraded — and pre-validated, meaning that each has been pre-configured and pre-tested, ensuring that customer development and deployment times are kept to the minimum possible. Field-proven IPMI code is provided to ensure interoperability. Each platform is designed to deliver the performance and flexibility needed for cost-sensitive network-centric MicroTCA development applications in a variety of markets including telecom, commercial and military.

WiMAX Deploys Worldwide
According to ABI Research, mobile operators and other service providers are planning mobile WiMAX networks all over the world, mainly in the 2.5 GHz and 3.5 GHz bands. ABI Research forecasts substantial numbers of WiMAX subscribers worldwide: more than 95 million using CPE devices by 2012, and almost 200 million using mobile devices, with some overlap between the two groups.
