EDA Industry Revenue – Q1 2007
The electronic design automation (EDA) industry, grew by 10% to $1,345 million in Q1 of 2007, versus $1,223 million in Q1 2006. The four-quarter average growth rate was 15%. This increase reflects both the continuing growth of the industry as a whole and the growth of the MSS program. Companies that were tracked employed 25,820 professionals in Q1 2007, up 11% from the 23,324 in Q1 2006.

Wireless USB
Wireless USB (WUSB) products will hit the market this year. According to In-Stat, the initial WUSB products will be dongle and hub solutions that will allow PCs to wirelessly connect to PC peripherals and CE devices. Integrated solutions with Certified WUSB capability will be offered in a few devices before this year, including PCs, printers, multi-function peripherals (MFPs), and digital still cameras. Certified WUSB are designed to replace USB cables on the PC desktop. They also facilitate temporary connections between mobile and fixed devices (ie – portable digital audio players to PCs, digital still cameras to printers).

Intel Develops Solid State Nand Flash Drive
Intel’s (NASDAQ:INTC) Z-U130 Value Solid-State Drive is based on NAND flash memory with industry standard USB interfaces. The Intel Z-U130 Value Solid State Drive offers cost-effective, high-performance storage for a wide variety of computing and embedded platforms. With advantages over hard disk drive (HDD) or removable universal serial bus (USB) storage devices, Intel’s Solid State Drives deliver faster boot times, embedded code storage, rapid data access and low-power storage alternatives for value PCs, routers, servers, gaming and industrial applications.

Analog Devices ADSP-BF52x Blackfin Processors
The ADSP-BF52x processors offer system designers a breadth of choice with a high-performance/low-power series (ADSP-BF527/BF525/BF522) operating at 600MHz, and an ultra-low-power series running at up to 400MHz. All incorporate Blackfin Lockbox Secure Technology(TM) to provide capabilities for implementing the next generation of security — for uses that range from safeguarding intellectual property to protected e-commerce and social networking — on digital media devices.

GAO 2812EVM-I Evaluation Board
GAO’s 2812EVM-I Evaluation Board is specially designed for control system developers to evaluate the performance of applications running on a TMS320F2812 DSP. In addition, it enables users to quickly evaluate if design requirements can be met and greatly speeds up the development process. This adaptable EVM board allows the user modify it through the addition of customized algorithms.

Atmel AT90USB82/162 AVR USB Microcontrollers
Based on the 8-bit AVR core, the Atmel (Nasdaq: ATML) AT90USB82 and AT90USB162 feature a full-speed USB (12 Mbits/s) controller and have 8- and 16-Kbyte of Flash memory, respectively allowing in-system programming directly through their USB interface. On-chip EEPROM of 512 bytes allows for parameters settings without interfering with the application. The AVR microcontrollers are ideal for high-volume USB applications ranging from high-performance Human Interface Devices (HID) to wireless adaptors.
